Sunrise Circles

Improves shoulder mobility and strength and can help with activities such as getting dressed and opening cupboards.

Start with ten gentle circles.


  • Make this easier

    • Keep your elbows soft.
    • Circle below shoulder height.
  • Make this harder

    • Gradually make your circles bigger.
    • Add in anti-clockwise circles (sunset circles).


Step 1

Start with soft (gently bent) elbows and progress to straight arms.

Step 2

Ensure the movement is from your shoulder.

Step 3

Cross and circle arms slowly up and out.

If you suffer from COPD, please do not have your hands above your head for more than 3 seconds.
