The Eatwell Guide

No food on its own contains all the essential nutrients the body needs to stay healthy and work properly. Therefore, our diets should contain a variety of different food groups, to ensure we get a wide range of nutrients. This is illustrated by the UK’s healthy eating model – the Eatwell Guide.
The Eatwell Guide was developed by the Department of Health1 . It shows how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group to achieve a healthy, balanced diet. The proportions shown are representative of your food consumption over the period of a day or even a week, not necessarily each mealtime.
